Joe's Grill Express

Joe's Grill Express

I had a few hours before my flight back to the mainland and I'm so fortunate to have had my last plate lunch at Joe's Grill Express. Joe's is off of Nimitz highway tucked between a bunch of industrial buildings so it can be easily missed, but for those lucky enough to find Joe's, you're definitely in for a treat.

The Filipino/Hawaiian restaurant is a bit tight and cozy so you might want to do take out, but if you can grab a spot feel free to do so. After heading up to the counter I was greeted with smiles and excellent customer service. I decided to order the Chicken Katsu regular plate lunch which was $7.75, which included Chicken Katsu, 2 scoops of rice, and mac (which can also be substituted with potato salad I believe). The plate lunch also comes with a side of spicy chili katsu sauce. In addition, my party also ordered the BBQ pork plate lunch with the same sides. After ordering they took my name and I felt that was a nice personal touch to dining there instead of using order numbers like other spots.

After a few minutes, they called my name and they made sure I was okay before I left. Once again I was greeted with so much good vibes and it definitely felt like I was dining with family.

It was about 30 minutes before I got a chance to take a bite into our plate lunches and all I can is say is ono grinds all the way. The katsu chicken had a nice texture and the mac salad was consistent to my liking. In addition, the BBQ pork was excellent and the sauce made a nice mixture with the rice. The next time I head back to Oahu, I'm definitely stopping by Joe's Express Grill.
